The Sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) is a species of large white birds with a very special crest. In Rio and Rio 2, Nigel is a Sulphur-crested cockatoo who is the main antagonist. In the first film, he works for Marcel and the smugglers, and is trying to smuggle Blu, Jewel, and other rare birds. In the second film, Nigel follows Blu and Jewel and their family to the Amazon, trying to get revenge on them for defeating him in the first film. Like all large birds, he is very smart and powerful. They are native to New Guinea and Australia.
The Sulphur-crested cockatoo's size vary from 45-51cm in height. They have crest feathers that can be raised and lowered depending on their mood. They have white feathers except under the wings, which feathers have a tint of yellow in them.
Cockatoos are common pets, but are very hard to deal with and take care of. They can be loud, and mostly are one person birds. Nigel is closest to Marcel, which might represent cockatoos in real life.
